Visiting Scholars & Artists @ The Thacher School, Ojai, California

March 24 – April 2, 2016

The learning experience at Thacher has never been confined to the classroom. This is especially evident in the rich assortment of thinkers, doers, and performers who are regularly tossed into the academic mix.

All year long, the campus welcomes visiting scholars, artists in residence, and other guests who share their special expertise. Some become members of the campus community for extended periods of time, others are here only briefly to deliver lectures or meet with students.

Visiting Scholars and Artists

Through the generosity of two former Thacher parents, in 2006 the School established the Anacapa Fellowship. The program seeks to attract luminaries in a variety of fields: college professors on sabbatical and other scholars of established reputation; writers who also teach; painters, sculptors, musicians, and others. The Anacapa House (pictured above) provides fellows with comfortable space for informal gatherings with students and faculty.

Topic: Composition, Color, and Critique

Instructor: Frank Juarez

Description: This workshop introduces participants to three key areas that can improve the quality of taking photographs. Composition deals with the arrangement of your subject matter and its surrounding within the frame of the lens. Color influences how one interprets an image and can set a specific mood that is being narrated by the photographer. Critique is a great way to get feedback from peers. This feedback can guide participants into seeing something he/she may not have thought of, which can be used in future photographs.
