Unveiling of the Baird Center Expansion and Commissioned Artworks
The Baird Center hosted an exclusive unveiling for its employees, commissioned artists, and invited guests on May 4, 2024. The architectural design and the view of the city were breathtaking. The newly commissioned artwork expands between two buildings, North and South. Several large-scale works by Milwaukee artists, Reginald Baylor, David Najib Kasir, kathryn e, martin, Nova Czarnecki, John Fleissner, Tommy and Ann Sweeney, Design Fugitive, Mark Brautigam, Nicolas Lampert, Brandon Minga, span throughout the four levels of the North Building. Walking through the Baird Center and surrounded by art felt like ‘home’. I felt a sense of comfort as I walked from one artwork to another. This is an impressive collection of contemporary works that reflects identity, diversity, belonging, and celebrates a rich Milwaukee history. As I drove home, I wondered if there was a map of the art collection. I bet there were several works I missed.
