On Saturday, March 9th, I presented at the Dane Arts Business of Art Conference 3 in Madison, Wisconsin. My presentation title was “6 Key Strategies to Effective Self-Promotion.” In its third year this annual conference brought 200 attendees from Wisconsin and neighboring states to learn, network, and refuel their creative spirits and drive to further engage in their creative practices. The conference’s programming consisted of keynote speakers, meet-n-greets, presentations, local music, and performances at Arts + Literature Laboratory and StartingBlock. Some of the presentations that took place were Interactive Grant Writing Workshop, Art, Content Creation, and Intellectual Property, Costing and Pricing your Work, Elevating Community: Connecting Art to the Community, Accounting for the Arts, Meet the Press, Media Panel; to name a few.

The business side of art has been an interest of mine since 2010. Engaging in this topic has allowed me to take creative risks, implement new ideas, and assess if what I am doing is moving me in the right direction. It also presented the opportunity to stay focus and continue to be self-motivated. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the first two days due to teaching. I do regret missing out on a great selection of topics.

A big congratulations to Dane Arts Executive Director, Mark Fraire, LTE Cultural Affairs Specialist, Augusta Brulla, staff, and the volunteers for a successful event.

I would highly recommend anyone interested in this type of conference to follow Dane Arts on Instagram and subscribe to their newsletter. Perhaps our paths will cross in 2025.
